Frequently Asked Questions
Got a critical podiatry question or a query about our Podi products, pouches or appointments? You can probably find the answer here.
The FREE online consultation is only 20 minutes long. Is this long enough for the chiropodist/podiatrist to treat my feet?
The consultation provides an immediate opportunity for the patient to explain their concerns and show the chiropodist/podiatrist their feet. Then there is sufficient time for the chiropodist/podiatrist to advise the patient on what to do, explaining how to resolve their particular problem and which of the Podi Pouch’s contents might help with this.
How many FREE online consultations do I get?
When you buy a Podi Pouch, you get one free online consultation, which you can use whenever and wherever you want. You can buy an additional online consultation or pay for a face-to-face consultation in one of our clinics if you need a further appointment.
What's the difference between a chiropodist and a podiatrist?
There’s no difference! People in the UK use the term chiropody whereas internationally, people use the term podiatrist.
A chiropodist or podiatrist specialises in preventing and treating all sorts of foot problems. Athletes foot, painful foot, bunions or corns, ingrowing toenails, chilblains, blisters, fungal toenails, yellow nails and black nails.
What is the difference between a chiropodist/podiatrist and a foot health practitioner (FHP)?
They are all foot health professionals, but chiropodists/podiatrists are more highly qualified. Individuals must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) to describe themselves as either a chiropodist or a podiatrist. The HCPC protects the public by ensuring that those registered with it meet certain professional standards regarding education, training and practice.
What does a chiropodist/podiatrist do?
Chiropodists/podiatrists assess, diagnose and treat conditions of the foot. They will treat patients of all ages and aim to keep your feet healthy and pain-free, helping improve your mobile and, therefore, your quality of life.
If my feet hurt, who should I see my GP first or a chiropodist/podiatrist?
A chiropodist/podiatrist should be your first port of call with issues relating to your feet. They will assess, diagnose and develop a personal treatment plan to help improve your condition. During the consultation, if your condition merits it, your chiropodist/podiatrist will recommend whether you should see your GP or another health professional, such as a physiotherapist.
